With the release of Oneplus 5T with a 18:9 screen, Oneplus was forced to move the fingerpint scanner to the back of the smartphone - for the first time in the company's history. However, this looks to be just a temporary solution.

The next company's flagship phone that will launch in the early 2018, likely to be named Oneplus 6, is rumored to feature an under-the-screen fingerprint reader. That makes a lot of sense for several reasons. First, Vivo, which is owned by BBK - and so is Oneplus - has already showed smartphone prototypes with the fingerprint sensor placed under the screen.

Second, Synaptics has already started mass production of Clear ID FS9500, which is exactly this type of fingerprint reader. And the last, the first mass-production smartphone with such fingerprint reader is rumored to be showcased at CES 2018 in January, so this type of fingerprint scanner will not be uncommon by the time Oneplus' next smartphone launches.
