A long time ago, during a trip to Russia in a region called the Permsky Krai, I discovered a very interesting toponym. The pronunciation of this toponym is so unusual that even a Russian person feels a slight discomfort while reading it. Kost'Yashcher is a tiny village founded in 1663, whose history has become a legend because of its name. The fact is that Kost'Yashcher in English literally means the Bone of a Lizard, and many adventurers believe that somewhere near the village there is an ancient cemetery of prehistoric lizards. However, the truth is a boring thing. Kost'Yashcher is a derived form of the old name of the village Cos'Yashor that from the Komi-Permyak language means the rapid river. Despite the obvious origin of this toponym, travelers go to these places for unusual impressions.
