Lindos welcomes visitors with its whitewashed houses, narrow lanes, and stunning views of the turquoise sea. Yet among this familiar Mediterranean scenery, there's another, somewhat unexpected sight: saddled donkeys patiently waiting for their next trip uphill.
Donkeys and mules were once an essential part of everyday life on many Greek islands, where steep terrain and limited space made transporting goods difficult. In Lindos, that tradition lives on in a different form: donkeys still help tourists make their way up to the Acropolis, the town's main attraction.
