We usually see landmarks as if they exist on their own, but cities rarely work that way. Especially in Istanbul.
The Galata Tower may be the most recognizable thing in this view, but it’s only one part of a much bigger picture. Look closer, and you’ll find old rooftops next to newer buildings, bright facades beside weathered walls, trees, boats and streets — so many layers that come together without any one of them taking over.
And that’s when the landmark becomes just another part of the city.
