A super fun birthday!

Hoy cumplía años la pequeña prima de mi esposo, recién cumple sus 4 añitos y es toda una hermosura, su fiesta fue de temática de las guerreras del K-pop y fue en un parque que nunca había conocido, de verdad que este día fue maravilloso, nos distrajimos muchísimo del estrés y las noticias malas que vemos diariamente sobre el terremoto, es la primera vez que me distraigo desde aquel día. Además fue gratificante ver a la familia de mi esposo ya que todos ellos viven en la Guaira (el lugar mas afectado por el terremoto) y volver a verlos a todos sanos y salvos es un alivio, aunque algunos perdieron sus hogares pero por suerte tienen como resolver por ahora, igualmente es una pena.

Today was my husband’s little cousin’s birthday—she just turned 4 and is absolutely gorgeous. Her party had a K-pop warrior theme and was held at a park I’d never been to before. It really was a wonderful day; it took our minds off the stress and the bad news we see every day about the earthquake. It’s the first time I’ve been able to take my mind off things since that day. It was also heartwarming to see my husband’s family, since they all live in La Guaira (the area hardest hit by the earthquake). Seeing them all safe and sound is a relief, even though some lost their homes—though luckily they’ve managed to get by for now. Still, it’s a shame.

El lugar era un parque con muchos trampolines y juegos muy divertidos, los niños disfrutaron al máximo, mi hijo estaba bastante sudado y aunque parecía super cansado seguía jugando sin parar, compartió con su prima que casi no la ve y tambien con sus tías. Todos trataron a mi hijo con mucho cariño, hoy se sintió bastante amado. Los adultos hablamos y veíamos como los niños se divertían fue bastante emocionante.

The place was a park with lots of trampolines and really fun play equipment; the kids had a blast. My son was pretty sweaty, and even though he looked really tired, he kept playing nonstop. He spent time with his cousin, whom he hardly ever sees, and also with his aunts. Everyone treated my son with so much affection; he felt really loved today. We adults chatted and watched the kids have fun—it was really heartwarming.

Llegamos bastante tarde a casa porque luego de allí fuimos a un lugar a comer perros calientes, estamos super cansados, fue un día bastante agotador físicamente pero relajante mental y emocionalmente, después de tantos días sentimiento terrible y asustada ha sido un respiro bastante agradable… A pesar de que en el camino a la fiesta logre ver de cerca edificios bastante afectados por el terremoto, al rodearme de tantas personas me sentí un poco mas tranquila, claro, tambien fue difícil escuchar como cada uno de ellos vivió ese terremoto en la guaira y escuchar a todas las amistades que perdieron.

We got home pretty late because after that we went somewhere to eat hot dogs; we’re super tired—it was a pretty physically exhausting day but mentally and emotionally relaxing. After so many days of feeling terrible and scared, it’s been a really nice breather… Even though on the way to the party I saw up close some buildings that had been badly damaged by the earthquake, being surrounded by so many people made me feel a little calmer. Of course, it was also hard to hear how each of them experienced that earthquake in La Guaira and to hear about all the friends they lost.
