Hi, friends! Today I want to share a little about Tommy’s progress this week. A few days ago, he got a little sick because of the earthquake. The good news is that his illness wasn’t serious at all—it was mostly just the trauma from the intense situation we’ve all been through. Over the past week, he’s been taking his vitamins without any problems. I thought it would be really hard to give him his medicine, but Tommy is such a good little kitten—even though he doesn’t like it, he just accepts his fate, haha.
His spirits have improved tremendously since we went to the vet; every day he began to get back into his routine, doing everything he’d stopped doing. He followed me everywhere, said “good morning” and “good night” to me, and his appetite returned to normal. All of this happened gradually, but these little details filled me with a great sense of peace every day. Today he’s the same cat he’s always been, although he never stops being alert—you can tell he’s still nervous, especially these last few days when we’ve felt several earthquakes.
I get really worried about him when he gets scared because I understand him perfectly; this kind of post-traumatic stress is driving us all crazy, and it’s even hard to sleep. Sometimes Tommy is sleeping on the coffee table in our living room, and out of nowhere he jumps up and stares intently at the door as if he senses something we don’t. I suppose he feels every aftershock, no matter how slight, and that’s why he gets upset from time to time.
But it really reassures me to know that he’s already improved so much—all that’s left are the normal aftereffects of this horrible situation. Other than that, he’s back to being my beautiful, playful, cheerful, affectionate Tommy…
MEOW!
