My daily quest today was winning 5 battles using a Snipe splinter.
The rentals I had gotten on Day-2 expired so I figured I was going to try a new element. Being in Bronze II, I knew that I had less chances to clear the daily quest in a very low number of attempts with my starter cards, so I jumped into the market to look for good cheap rentals I could use.
As I was getting more familiar with the rewards system, I was looking for a Sniper, with an Alpha/Promo Gold version: since a Sniper was the requirement for the quest, I wanted to make sure my investment would be a card that I could use to complete my daily.
After assessing my options, I decided to go with Pirate Captain: only 3 Mana, 2 Snipe damage and a special ability to target Monsters with Ranged or Magic (I’ve seen many of those around, so this could have turned out to be a good edge). This set me back 7 DEC for the day, which seemed good since the next cheaper Promo Gold version was going for 14 DEC at that time.
The one thing I did not think about was the Summoner: the ones I had in the starter deck were Alric Stormbringer and Bortus. The former gives +1 Magic to friendly monsters, the latter gives -1 Magic to the enemies.
A few Practice battles quickly told me that I was not going to go very far like this, as I needed a Summoner with more versatile abilities that could carry me through different types of enemies…time to get a new Summoner!
Getting Lir Deepswimmer for another daily rent was a no-brainer. The Mana cost of 7 was a bit of a turnoff, but his abilities sounded amazing:
No special versions here, too expensive, but I managed to snag the Regular version for 20 DEC.
Using this Summoner turned out to be quite satisfying, especially because of the Return Fire ability, basically getting free attacks here and there.
The formation that gave me the best results overall was the following: Lir Deepswimmer, Spineback Turtle, Electric Eels, Pirate Captain, Water Elemental and Sniping Narwhal (total Mana cost of 28).
In lower Mana battles, I would take out Sniping Narwhal and/or Electric Eels.
I did have challenges in much lower Mana battles (like 12-14), where allocating 7 Mana for my Summoner gave me very little room for getting creative on my team.
Nevertheless, my Snipe Quest was completed now and I could enjoy my reward, another Chain Spinner (got one already yesterday…)!
At the end of Day-3, I’m now still sitting in Bronze II but have made some progress, my Rating is +72 since yesterday and my Rank went from 13,622 to 12,642.
My takeaways from Day-3:
