According to the legend, the sector of the Ipure Lagoon was formerly a spring where the aborigines went to look for water. One day two children who went in search of water to the lagoon met a snake and it swallowed one of them. They say that the sorcerer of the community was informed of the news, made a spell and managed to get the snake out of the depths of the water. He opened it in half to remove the body of the girl he had swallowed and the parents took the body of his lifeless daughter to watch over him. When they returned to the place where the shaman had opened the snake, they saw that it was not there and, instead, there was another lagoon, which was called Lagunita. This legend is what gave rise to the traditional dance the Culebra de Ipure.
