Remember that watch I was waiting for? The watch over which Lady Amazon was able to bend me to her will?
I haven’t always been a watches and accessories kind of guy.
…in fact, up until recently I have had a long history of priding myself on being dirty and grubby, earthen-type if you will - all whips and quips and chocolate chips baby!!
But recently, I decided it would be fun to completely reqrite myself. You know we’re never stuck, right?
I can be totally different, any time. All it takes is a decision and a commitment. I could say You know what? I no longer love my neighbor. and with that, I could begin constructing a generational feud, teeming with hatred…of course, if said generations knew their power of self-definition, they in turn could destroy my hard earned enmity if only they woke up one day and thought You know what? I no longer hate my neighbor.
Point? Oh yeah…the point.
…lemme get that for you.
The point is, I decided to change. It started with a haircut and cleaning up my overloaded Gmail inbox from 2017, and has taken me through a journey of cleaning up every dirty or previously unregulated corner of my life.
There’s a new sheriff in town, and this guy don’t turn a blind eye to SHIT. 💩
He’s doing it again…you know that thing, where he acts loke he’s getting to the point but only really hones in amd makes a secondary point out of a tangential line of thought? Yeah that
Do you think he knows he’s doing it?
Yes. At least, I mean, well I figured it out anyway so can that be enough for now?
…sure I guess so
OK great, thank you. Anyway, if we could save the inteospection for later I’d really appreciate it…I think there might be someone watching right now
If words had thoughts, amiright?!?
I’m seeious! SHUT. UP.
ok
So the point is (yes, the point, pay no mind to that other self-proclaimed ”point” behind you), the point is I know I am able to change and I know how to do it. I’ve moved around a lot and in that process learned how to become a completely new person. I used to plan out the personality traits I’d have while my parents were planning out the logistics of how we’d all get to our next home in one piece, true story.
Being good at changing is awesome.
It’s really easy if you move around and easiest if you move around on your own. Once you’re married it’s by no means impossible, but it becomes more of a graceful dance…or this is how I’ve adapted to it anyway.
Once, a year or two after we got married I told a friend I had always wanted to grow my hair out like a rockstar or a viking or something.
Well you can forget that now buddy - you’re married and there’s no way she’s gonna let that happen!
If you’ve known me on here, you know that the first time I cut my hair shorter since joining Hive was recently, as a part of the very clean up subsuming the change of which we speak.
Point is (oh hello you there! Another one huh? Cute little devils, aren’t they?) I grew my hair out over the course of a few years and kept it for almost a decade. He was wrong. Generalizations often just flatten and degrade reality if we let them shape it for us.
She did kick back about the hair a few times during the work in progress phase. It can be discomforting when the people around us change. Will they change so much they don’t love me anymore? Or so much that I no longer feel the same way? What are the boundaries and implied effects of this change? …I get it.
But I held quietly and politely firm in my resolve, and once she was comfortable with the change, the change wasn’t a change anymore - it was just…me.
So now I’m cleaning up shop, making a LOT of changes. I can’t blame her for questioning whether or not these are really the new me or if its only a phase…she’s been with the old me for 15+ years, minus some change in hair.
She stood by me this morning while I brished my teeth this morning.
Oh, so you’re brushing your teeth now, huh?
She leaned coyly against the bathroom counter in her nightgown, the sun Carolina sun coming in through the window and radiating off of her skin in a golden malaise.
Hygiene is something I’m doing more consistentoy now also. I thought she’d be happier to notice my commitment to being classy and clean, a man of stature.
I’m trying to do better, yeah I smiled back at her, already knowing where she’s heading.
Cuz you got a nine-hundred dollar watch and you think you’re somethin’ now, huh? Her eyes sparkled like they do when she’s got me by the balls.
You know, for every day that you don’t wear that fancy new watch that you say you’re gonna wear all the time, I’m taking a hundred bucks.
I shaved my neck as she prepared for the hair appointment she had scheduled for this morning.
In no time flat I’ll be up to nine hundred bucks and I can get whatever I want with it.
She smiled at me, foing her own version of the sex python bit, but maybe something more akin to a sexy black widow
What do you think I should get?
She teased
I dunno, I think it get you three haircuts ;)
Phyrric. Victory.
