Our prison system here in Alaska is seriously broken. We have been duped into believing prison is a punishment. Here they have Xboxes, tv’s, gym equipment, access to free schooling or classes. They can sleep all day if they want to. They get 3 hot meals a day at no cost to them. Some one else does there laundry for them. How is this punishment? There is even a new prison that cost 242 million that most of the doors don’t lock the priosioners in.
It is a broken concept and way too expensive.
The prison houses 1534 at max. But my main concerns about this place is they provide the inmates with more rights than the public. They have get togethers, that are paid for by the state. Bbq’s, Job training, free medical, free mental health,
They can order tv’s for there cells, Xbox 360’s also. Not to mention the two 42” TVs in the day rooms with cable. Most of their friends are there, they can get almost any drugs they want.
Why would any one want to leave?
It has becaume a way of life. This prison has been open for 6 years now. They have had 8 correctional officers assaulted, none of which made the news. But one officer got busted for bringing in drugs and it hit national news. What is wrong with this picture.
