Porque enseñar no es solo transmitir información, es asumir una responsabilidad: la de guiar, acompañar y, de alguna manera, influir en el proceso de otro. Hello hello community 💕, There is something quite special that happens when we make the transition from learners to teachers. It is a subtle yet profoundly transformative shift. Because teaching is not merely about passing on information; it is about taking on a responsibility: that of guiding, supporting and, in some way, influencing another person’s journey. And in the midst of all that, an uncomfortable but honest question inevitably arises: *Am I prepared enough for this?* Today, following the theme proposed by @syllem, we’ll talk about how [we learn whilst we teach 💖](https://peakd.com/hive-139925/@syllem/letras-inspiradoras-ensenar-para-aprender-or-inspiring-letters-teaching-to-learn).

En mi caso, esta pregunta se hizo muy presente durante mi etapa de pasantías en el área clínica de la psicología. De repente, me encontraba en una posición donde ya no era solo estudiante, sino también guía. **Alguien que debía orientar, explicar, ofrecer herramientas**. Y aunque tenía una base académica, la realidad del consultorio era completamente distinta. Cada paciente traía consigo una historia única, preguntas inesperadas y necesidades específicas que no siempre coincidían con lo que yo ya sabía. Recuerdo muchas ocasiones en las que me hacían preguntas para las que no tenía una respuesta inmediata. Y en esos momentos, la inseguridad aparecía casi sin aviso. Sentía que quizás *no era lo suficientemente capaz, que me faltaba conocimiento, que aún no estaba “lista” para estar en ese lugar.* Era una sensación constante, como una pequeña voz que cuestionaba mi preparación. Y lo más interesante es que, aunque con el tiempo aprendí a manejarla mejor, nunca desapareció del todo.

In my case, this question became very much on my mind during my clinical psychology placements. Suddenly, I found myself in a position where I was no longer just a student, but also a mentor. **Someone who had to guide, explain, and offer tools**. And although I had an academic foundation, the reality of the practice was completely different. Each patient brought with them a unique story, unexpected questions, and specific needs that did not always match what I already knew. I remember many occasions when I was asked questions to which I did not have an immediate answer. And in those moments, insecurity would creep in almost without warning. I felt that perhaps *I wasn’t capable enough, that I lacked knowledge, that I wasn’t yet ‘ready’ to be in that place.* It was a constant feeling, like a little voice questioning my preparedness. And the most interesting thing is that, although over time I learnt to manage it better, it never disappeared entirely.

Sin embargo, algo empezó a cambiar en la forma en la que interpretaba esa sensación. Dejé de verla únicamente como una limitación y comencé a entenderla como una señal. Una invitación a ir más allá de lo que ya sabía. Porque cada vez que salía del consultorio con una duda, con una inquietud o con la sensación de que podía haber dado más, eso me impulsaba a investigar, a leer, a preguntar. **A comprometerme con mi propio aprendizaje de una forma mucho más activa y consciente.** Y ahí fue donde entendí algo importante: ***enseñar también es aprender.*** De hecho, muchas veces es una de las formas más profundas de hacerlo. Porque cuando sabes que otra persona va a recibir esa información, que va a confiar en lo que le dices, ya no te conformas con una comprensión superficial. Necesitas entender de verdad. Necesitas ir más allá, cuestionarte, organizar tus ideas, buscar claridad. *Enseñar te exige, pero también te forma*.

However, something began to change in the way I interpreted that feeling. I stopped seeing it merely as a limitation and started to understand it as a sign. An invitation to go beyond what I already knew. Because every time I left the consulting room with a doubt, a concern, or the feeling that I could have done more, it spurred me on to research, to read, to ask questions. **To commit to my own learning in a much more active and conscious way.** And that was when I realised something important: ***teaching is also learning.*** In fact, it is often one of the most profound ways of doing so. Because when you know that another person is going to receive that information, that they are going to trust what you say, you are no longer satisfied with a superficial understanding. You need to truly understand. You need to go further, question yourself, organise your ideas, seek clarity. *Teaching demands a lot from you, but it also shapes you*.

Esto no significa que debamos saberlo todo. Al contrario, creo que una de las lecciones más valiosas en este proceso es **aprender a reconocer lo que no sabemos**. Y hacerlo sin culpa, sin vergüenza. Entender que, no tener todas las respuestas no nos hace menos profesionales, ni menos capaces. *Nos hace humanos*. Y más aún, nos abre la puerta a seguir creciendo. A veces, lo que más nos detiene no es la falta de conocimiento en sí, sino la creencia de que deberíamos tenerlo todo resuelto antes de atrevernos a enseñar. Como si existiera un punto exacto en el que finalmente estamos “listos”. Pero la verdad es que ese punto rara vez llega. **Siempre habrá algo nuevo por aprender, algo que no hemos explorado del todo. Y está bien que así sea.**

This doesn’t mean we have to know everything. On the contrary, I believe one of the most valuable lessons in this process is **learning to recognise what we don’t know**. And doing so without guilt or shame. Understanding that not having all the answers doesn’t make us any less professional, or any less capable. *It makes us human*. And what’s more, it opens the door for us to keep growing. Sometimes, what holds us back most is not the lack of knowledge itself, but the belief that we should have everything figured out before we dare to teach. As if there were a precise point at which we are finally ‘ready’. But the truth is that that point rarely comes. There will always be something new to learn, something we haven’t fully explored. And that’s okay.

En mi experiencia, lo que realmente marca la diferencia no es tener todas las respuestas, *sino la disposición de buscarlas*. Es la honestidad de decir “no lo sé, pero voy a investigarlo”. Es el compromiso con el aprendizaje continuo. Porque al final, enseñar no se trata de posicionarnos como expertos absolutos, sino como personas en constante construcción, **que acompañan a otros desde lo que saben… y desde lo que están dispuestos a aprender.** Mirando hacia atrás, puedo decir que esos momentos de duda fueron, en realidad, grandes maestros. *Me obligaron a salir de mi zona de confort, a cuestionarme, a profundizar.* Me enseñaron que la inseguridad no siempre es un enemigo a vencer, sino a veces **una guía que nos indica hacia dónde necesitamos crecer.**

In my experience, what really makes the difference isn’t having all the answers, *but the willingness to seek them out*. It’s the honesty to say, “I don’t know, but I’ll look into it.” It’s a commitment to lifelong learning. Because ultimately, teaching isn’t about positioning ourselves as absolute experts, but as people constantly evolving, **who support others based on what they know… and on what they’re willing to learn. ** Looking back, I can say that those moments of doubt were, in fact, great teachers. *They forced me to step out of my comfort zone, to question myself, to dig deeper.* They taught me that insecurity isn’t always an enemy to be defeated, but sometimes **a guide pointing us towards where we need to grow.**

So, if you’ve ever felt this way—as if you didn’t know enough, as if you weren’t quite ready yet—perhaps it’s not a sign to stop, but to move forward in a different way. With more curiosity, with more humility, with more intention.

Because teaching isn’t the end of learning. It is, more often than not, the start of a new way of learning. 💫💖
