Around 11 years ago I was knitting a shrug in Linz. It was the time I was staying at an art and design university for one year as a guest researcher. As the title shows, I was knitting it for my trip to India as I heard I had to cover my arms for some occasions.

The project was unfinished. I couldn't finish it until the departure day and I continued knitting it in India. Then I lost it. Just by writing this, I miss India a lot. The people, energy, color, smell, food ...
After 11 years, I'm knitting a shrug again in Linz. I wonder if this coincidence means something. I didn't think about knitting a shrug in Linz.
On the first day, I went for a walk to see the city of Linz and found a yarn store which had been there since my last stay. They had an interesting fluffy alpaca mixed yarn in front of the store.
It was so soft and fluffy. I remembered that one of my favorite YouTuber was wearing a pullover with this kind of material. Yes, it's time to knit one for me too ................. but they only had two balls.
I couldn't give it up and bought the two balls with an idea to knit a shrug with 10mm needles instead of 8mm ones recommended on the label.
Then I have been knitting my shrug in between my work here in Linz. It looks like an animal when it is placed flat on a table ...
When I wear it, it looks like this. I wish I could express how warm it makes my shoulders and back. I want to make a pullover ... that's knitting life!
As a shrug is basically tubes (sleeves) with a flat surface (back) so it can be worn like a scarf too. It is incredibly warm , soft and fluffy around my neck.
As there were some red-orange yarns left at the shop, I wonder I buy some of them to knit a cowl ... 😁

11年ほど前、今滞在している美術デザイン大学に客員研究員として1年間滞在していた時にリンツでシュラッグ（肩と背中を覆う感じの丈が短いカーディガン）を編んでいました。タイトルの通り、インドでは腕を隠す必要があると聞き、そのために編んでいました。

インドに出発する日までに完成しなかったので、インドで編み続けました。それでなんとインドで失くしてしまったのです。インドでは結局普通に半袖でうろうろできたので必要なかったのですが、ちょっと心残りです。ああ、こうして書いているだけで、インドが恋しくなります。インドの人、エネルギー、色、匂い、食べ物・・・。
おもしろいことに、今また11年ぶりにリンツでシュラッグを編んでいます。この偶然は何か意味があるかな。リンツでシュラッグを編み始めたのは偶然以外のなにものでもありません。
リンツ滞在の初日、街を見ようと散歩をしていたら、毛糸屋さんが同じ場所にあるのを見つけました。店先にはあれこれセールの毛糸が並んでいて（セールのカゴ殻掘り出し物を探すの好きなんですよね）ふわふわのアルパカとウール混紡のおもしろい毛糸がありました。とても柔らかくて、ふわふわでほぼ衝動買い決定。
私の好きなYouTuberの一人がこういう素材のセーターを着ていたのを思い出し、私の分も編もう......と思ったら、2玉しかないとのこと 😭 あきらめきれず、ラベルに書いてある8mm針ではなく、10mm針でシュラッグなら編めるかもと最後の2玉を購入しました。
さっそく仕事の合間にシュラッグを編み始めて、片方の袖ができました。テーブルの上に平らに置くと動物のようです。
着るとこんな感じです。肩や背中がものすごく温かくて、ああ、セーター編めたらなあ・・・。
シュラフは基本的に袖が筒状で、背中が平面なので、マフラーのように巻くこともできます。首元がふわふわであたたかいです。
お店には赤のようなオレンジのような同じシリーズの毛糸がまだあったので、カウルを編むために買っちゃおうかな・・・。
北国の寒い冬は時として厳しいですが、編み物するにはとても楽しいです。
