Recently, our vacuum cleaner started malfunctioning, so I was connecting the power cord to the plugs around the house. Then I hit my forehead on the corner of a wall mount shelf and started bleeding... It's been a while since I cried from an injury. The last time I cried was a few years ago when I was trying to open an oyster and accidentally cut my thumb deeply with a knife.
A few days before the forehead injury, I developed a crack on the tip of my thumb. Being someone who loves cooking, it still hasn't healed completely yet. Realizing I needed to do something about it, I wrapped it in a bandage.
My mother, who had specialized in medical translation, once told me about moist healing. She sent me a gel-type Band-Aid. Since similar products became available in Germany, I've been using them regularly.
However, injuries like the one on my forehead and fingertips are incredibly tricky to cover with Band-Aids. I can just about keep a Band-Aid on my fingertip by wrapping it around, but it's easy for water to get in. As for my forehead, the injury is right above my eyebrow, so the tape overlaps with my eyebrow, and it peeks out a bit even when I wear a hat. I'm prioritizing healing and keeping it covered 😅
Lying on the sofa in the living room, feeling a bit sorry for myself, I started thinking about the best way to heal these injuries. I remembered my Pilates instructor once wrapped a burn with ointment and plastic wrap. That led me to recall a workshop from a few years ago where I learned to make Calendula ointment. That's it!
In the extreme cold of German winter, fresh Calendula petals are not available, but I have some organic tea stored, so I decided to infuse it in Argan oil. Over the next few weeks, the oil will extract the ingredients. Afterward, I'll strain the oil and add beeswax and essential oils to finish it.
Looking back at the photos, I realized that the workshop was two years ago in 2021. My daughter was so little then! I remember she helped me collect the petals. And now, looking at the photos, I realized I forgot to separate just the petals... My brain needs rest 😅
I hope it turns out as well as the one I made two years ago.
Next year, I want to make ointment with Calendula that I've grown myself 😊 Despite the painful experience, it seems like my forehead will heal, and rediscovering Calendula ointment feels like fate.
That's all. Be careful for injuries. Health first. Have a great weekend!
