There are only two places in the world. Nigeria and other places. Nigeria is a nation of unusual complexities, fun ,corrupt, lovely , dirty, disorderly but clean and luxurious. It is a complex mashup.
We’re corrupt , like they say. No one is disproving that. Although, over the years, I have been forced to believe we are only as corrupt as we are lauded. Such is the way of the world, the loudest gets his or her voice heard and standardized as the truth while the tiny voiced with no power to manipulate the media suddenly becomes a liar.
I am not saying we are pure, neither am I saying they are pure. I am referring to those that have accused us. I am only saying we are as pure as the world is made to know.
This post is definitely not about preaching about the purity of a nation that is far from being immaculate.
In fact, it is more about the corruption , the disorderly state of affairs and the impending evil yet to come. I am not a pessimist but when only the seemingly evil comes out to contest, what else is there to believe.
I just made a transaction online . A very important one. It ended being a very dubious one. I didn’t dupe anyone. I was duped neatly and legally. As far as I am concerned, I paid for a service that was never rendered . I tried making a payment, as soon as I logged into the CASHENVOY terminal, I got charged N238, while being previously told on the merchant’s site that the fee is N138, that was before the bank terminal was contacted. So the service fell through , most likely because of my bank’s inefficiency and yet I was charged. That was wrong. Very wrong.
My bank, ACCESS BANK , they’ve been messing up badly for months now: taking money that is not theirs, taking forever to return it, and sometimes, as I have heard, they sometimes boldly tell you your money is gone without hope of return . This happens when you load call credits with their USSD code.
Is this corruption? No , it is not .It is worse, it is heartless negligence. The government has left us to be swindled , duped and mishandled by private institutions for years but now , it has gotten to the height of it and from what I have seen, no one seem to be saying shit about this.
The only noise about this I have ever heard was when a Nigerian Billionaire took GTBANK to court for mishandling his finances, he won the case, they’ve been ordered to pay him back, but what about us?
Can I Fight alone? Can you fight alone? Can we fight together? Can the government fight for us?
The fact that all the answers to above questions forever stands at NO, is the major source of hopelessness and evil in this country. First, it was the government, now it is MTN, the banks and the rest of them against us.
