This is probably of my most “proper” attempts at watercolor portrait. Watercolor portraits have felt daunting to me since a long time and the 2 times I have tried them, that fear just projected itself on paper. It felt only wise for me to simply my color palette to the maximum and hence I have painted a few monochromatic portraits.
Painting with gouache has really boosted my confidence in brush work. I mean I was just scared to lay down colors after making a sketch. And of course I have ruined quite a few of them 😅 But each time I ruined something, I felt a part of that fear reduce and relief take over it. Because it felt good to see that I got somewhere than nowhere! I love making portraits and have done so for a few of my friends over the years because giving them away fills me up with sooo much joy! It’s always important to keep polishing your skills and grow no matter what it is, so today I really spent good amount of time on this.
I honestly did not expect it to look like this! I mean I expected a lot of color bleeds and mess but everything was quite under control today :) I want to try a gouache version of this soon, but maybe some more with watercolor before that. Anyway what do you guys think?
