Hi lovelies, Happy weekend to you all. It's another time at @hiveghana , and I will like to share my entry into the little thing I think people make a big deal. For me that very thing is 'Age seniority '. Oh, I think women most especially will understand this. I'm of the school of thought that age is just a number. It is just a way to number our days in order to apply our hearts to wisdom even as the Holy Bible says. But the reverse is the case nowadays. You see people fighting one another just to prove seniority. People get annoyed unnecessarily when 'sister' or ' brother' is not added to the beginning of their names. I wonder for what reason. Even when it is cultural justifiable for the elderly ones, what happens to young people in the same age bracket, fighting and claiming a year - 2 years seniority?
Age is not meant to cheat or ride others. Age is not meant for pompousness. Infact, the irony of the matter is that the young are always anxious to grow older while the old try all their best to get younger. Then I wonder, what the big deal for fighting over age after all? People do make age seniority a really big case . I have seen a lot of teenagers given birth to in my presence, claiming older ages. I watched how they elevated themselves so high and practically looked down on others who were originally their agemate but didn't manoeuvre theirs. I shook my head at how their mothers even coerced their age mates to start adding aunty, sister or brother to their names. So, it baffles me, to what profit they are doing all such.
Parents nowadays support their children keep grudges against their peers that fail to add brother and sister to their chubby children's names. All these are not worth it. Africa is great, but I think it's not like that outside our countries. People are addressed by their names. They are focused on their lives which has somehow boosted their sense or responsibility and accountability. Unlike, when 'Jane' wants to be called 'Sister Jane' by neighbour, who she's just a year older than. The sense or entitlement is on another level. Meanwhile, it doesn't end there. They still expects their so called younger ones to run all errands for them. And if he or she fails in any of this. They term it disrespect.
I think it's high time people started thinking pass that. There's no much big deal in age seniority. Our fulfilment and impact in life is what matters. A lot of younger people are making impact, older ones are making efforts to remain relevant. Everyone has a life and lots still need to be done by everyone to make our world better. People should just stop making a mountain out of a molehil and focus on better things . Thanks!
