There is no taste in space
Do astronauts lose their sense of taste when in space?
They don't lose their sense of taste, per se. But, in microgravity, fluids rise into the head so many astronauts feel congested, similar to how we feel with a head cold, on Earth, and as with a cold on Earth, congestion affects the sense of smell. We use our sense of taste and smell together to get the full experience of what we think of as taste.So, astronauts can miss out on part of that experience. Foods can seem a bit dulled when the aroma is muted.As a result, and not just because astronauts are Texans, hot sauce is very popular on the ISS.
