NOUN:(اسم)

  • A noun is a word which used for naming anything.Or A noun names a person ,place or an idea.

COUNTABLE NOUN:(قابل شمار اسم)

Names of these things which are counted.

e.g

book,table,people ,star ,animal etc.

FORMS:

Countable noun have two forms.

1)Singular          2) Plural

SINGULAR:(واحد)

The noun which represents one person,place or thing is known as singular noun.

e.g

flower,fish,book,boy ,girls etc.

PLURAL:(جمع)

The noun which stands for more than one person ,place or thing is known as plural noun.

e.g

flowers,fishes,books,boys,girls etc

Rules for making plurals from singular nouns.

  • By adding "S" to singular numbers 

e.g

 book to books,boy to boys,head to heads,girl to girls pin to pins etc.

  • By adding "es" to those singular nouns which ends at s,x,ch,sh,ox,o etc.

e.g

box to boxes,glass to glasses,bush to bushes,hero to heroes etc

  • By changing "y" of those singular noun which proceeded by a constant into "i" and adding "es" in the end.

e.g 

baby to babies,lady to ladies etc.

  • By adding "s"at the end of singular noun proceeded by a vowel.(a,e,i,o,u)

e.g

boy to boys,monkey to monkeys etc

  • By changing f or "fe" of singular noun into "ves"

e.g

leaf to leaves, life to lives ,wife to wives etc.

  • By adding "s" at the end of singular noun proceeded by vowels (a,e,i,o,u)

e.g

chief to chiefs,roof to roofs

  • In compound noun only principle word is pluralised.

e.g

Brother-in-law to Brothers-in-law,step-son to step-sons,maid-servant to maid servants

  • Some noun are used in only singular form.

e.g

furniture,offspring,scenery etc.
