Today is Day 9 of taking care of my Carpet Rex rabbits. Here in Indonesia, it’s Tuesday, and this afternoon I prepared their food again. Nothing particularly special happened, but watching them eat together is always a lovely moment for me.
Preparing Their Food
This afternoon, I prepared some fresh water spinach for my rabbits. I bought the vegetables from a local street vendor. Besides fresh greens, I also give them rabbit pellets as part of their regular diet.
As soon as they saw me preparing their food, some of the rabbits started coming closer. It seemed like they already knew that feeding time was just around the corner.
Already Waiting
One of the rabbits was already waiting near the food bowl, even though I hadn’t finished preparing their meal yet.
It’s funny and adorable. Rabbits may look calm most of the time, but as soon as they see food, they suddenly become excited and can’t seem to wait to eat.
Earlier this afternoon, I gave them quite a lot of fresh water spinach. I thought it would last until the evening, but when I checked their food later, it was already completely gone.
I guess they enjoyed it more than I expected.
Time to Eat
Once the vegetables were ready, all three rabbits immediately gathered around. They started enjoying their food together outside the cage.
I was happy to see them eating peacefully and feeling comfortable around each other. They didn't fight or compete for the food, and each rabbit simply enjoyed its own meal. It was a simple moment, but watching them eat together like this always makes me happy.
A Little Petting and Bonding
After they finished eating, I tried gently petting one of the rabbits. I was surprised by how soft its fur felt.
The rabbit stayed quite calm and didn't seem too afraid of me. Moments like this make me happy because I can slowly build a bond with them. I also really enjoy seeing that they are gentle and not aggressive.
The Curious Black One
The black Rex rabbit didn't want to miss out either. He looked relaxed while staying close to the vegetables. I recently realized that the black rabbit is actually the fattest of the three. I really enjoy holding him because his body feels nice and solid compared to the others.
The more time I spend observing them, the more I notice that each rabbit has a different personality and behavior.
But there is also something that made me feel sorry for them. When I first bought four rabbits, I didn't realize that two of them were very thin. I only noticed it after bringing them home and checking each rabbit one by one.
Their bodies were noticeably thin, especially around their stomachs. It made me wonder if they had not been getting enough food before, or perhaps they simply hadn't been cared for properly by the previous owner.
Seeing them like that made me feel sorry for them. Now I just hope I can take good care of my three rabbits, keep them healthy and happy, and hopefully one day see them have lots of healthy babies.
More Interesting and Adorable Every Day
The gray Carpet Rex rabbit with a white stripe on its face also looked incredibly cute. Its soft fur reminded me of a Persian cat, and its innocent-looking face made me want to take another photo.
It has only been 9 days, but I’m already really enjoying the experience of taking care of them. I’m curious to see how they will grow over the next few weeks and months, and how their personalities might change along the way.
If you also keep rabbits, what food do your rabbits enjoy the most?
