I am not ashamed
🌟
When I was a child, I had an uncle who said he would never visit us again because he was embarrassed to come to my home. We lived in an attic and he had to use a side entrance, then climb a winding staircase to our apartment. I was so hurt at the time, by what he said. Now I realize that his embarrassment was a reflection of his own history, of his struggles as a young immigrant, of his rise to respectability. No matter how much money he made (he made a lot) he would never be able to leave behind that struggling, impoverished immigrant.
