Years ago I worked for a school that provided a therapeutic environment for its students. These students had been transferred from a mainstream environment because they couldn't handle stress. The director of the school used to say almost exactly what you decide in this blog: Sometimes you can't change things around you, but you certainly can change how you react to those things. That's the key to coping.
