Absolutely brilliant. Two predators, circling. A seamless story, round in a circle we go, the man hovering, looking for his prey, and the osprey hovering, waiting for opportunity.
You capture the girl's naivete perfectly, by allowing us to read her thoughts. You capture Rick's cynicism, his jealousy of an age-appropriate suitor for a child who is not yet out of school.
There is no question about the end. This was the only end that fit the story.
Just wonderful.
