In the early hours of Thursday, 10th of April, I started my day with a nature date. I had a lot of expectations, and since it was my first nature date ever, I made mistakes that I would not make on my next date.
It was a field survey at the forest nursery section under the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management, FUNAAB. The aim was to get the average population of some tree species and calculate the diversity index of the area.
I came across a few trees which had very similar leaflet structures, like the Leucaena leucocephala, a nitrogen-fixing tree known for its shades, and the Robinia pseudoacacia; I could hardly differentiate them.
I met the mighty termites, the soldiers of the wild, and just then, it clicked on me; I came on a nature date without a boot instead of a fancy sandal. The personnel material mentioned by my lecturer was a lab coat, and he stated that it was not necessary; either way, I came along with it (though I didn't make use of it).
I鈥檝e heard so much about the ukwu my whole life, but seeing it in person was such a treat! It was truly a wonderful experience!
One of the trees present at the nursery, which I have been conversant with, is the neem tree, Azadirachtra Indica. I have developed a liking for the neem tree. Apart from the fact that it is a point of reference as it is one of the pesticides I have been studying (Neem oil pesticides). I have been using its tea as a hair rinse; Neem helps to prevent scalp infection and dandruff and thereby promotes hair growth.
But then, I went without a camera and the urge to capture the beauty of nature was not fulfilled except for that beautiful face 馃き馃き
At the very end, my results showed that the forest nursery is quite diverse.
I look forward to my next nature date, probably a zoological garden. Do you have any suggestions for me in Abeokuta? 馃ズ
Have you had a similar experience? Could you share it with me? 馃槉
