One thing that makes The Terminator interesting is how a story released in 1984 can still feel relevant today, especially with the conversations we now have about artificial intelligence and how much control we should allow technology to have over our lives and watching it again from one of the cable TV channels brought back the amazing movie to my view and remembrance again.

The movie takes us into a future where an artificial intelligence system called Skynet has turned against humanity, triggering a nuclear catastrophe. With human survivors fighting back, Skynet sends a cyborg assassin, the Terminator played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, into the past to kill Sarah Connor played by Linda Hamilton), whose unborn son is destined to become a major figure in the human resistance.

To stop him, Kyle Reese played by Michael Biehn, a soldier from the future, is sent back to protect Sarah. The challenge is that Sarah has no idea why someone would want her dead, while Kyle is trying to convince her that the danger chasing her is not an ordinary human being.

From that point, the movie became a tense race for survival. The Terminator is relentless, and what makes him frightening is not just his strength but his complete lack of emotion. He does not negotiate, feel pity or get distracted by fear. He has a mission, and everything else is irrelevant to him.

Arnold Schwarzenegger fits the role remarkably well. His limited emotional expression and intimidating presence make the character feel like a machine pretending to be human. Linda Hamilton also gives us a believable Sarah Connor, who started as an ordinary young woman struggling to understand what is happening to her but gradually learns to fight back. Michael Biehn brings urgency and vulnerability to Kyle, the one whose knowledge of the future comes with the burden of having lived through its horrors.

What I particularly appreciate is how the movie balanced action with suspense. It doesn't rely entirely on explaining its futuristic world; it lets the danger unfold through the chase, the encounters and the characters' desperate decisions. The special effects may look dated in some places today, but the practical effects, atmosphere and Brad Fiedel's haunting musical score still did a lot of work.

The movie remains effective because it understands that a good action story needs more than explosions. It needs stakes, tension and characters we have a reason to care about.

The 1984 movie directed by James Cameron and co-written with Gale Anne Hurd and William Wisher, The Terminator is more than a story about a killer robot. It raises questions about human dependence on technology, the consequences of creating systems we cannot control, and whether the future is something we can change or merely something we are heading towards.

It was a movie worth watching and I knew quite well it was going to bring back memories as soon as I saw it from the preview list of movies to be shown.

I'll be dropping my 🖊️ here on the movie review.

Thanks for reading through 🤗
