Addiction is a choice no matter how more we may want to argue about it.
As humans, like I would always say, that we have the ability to choose whatever we want to do and how we want to do it. We can't be dominated by things unless it is our decision to succumb and give dominance to that thing.
Addiction does not start in a day but it is something that has always been done and started right from a very small act, we grow on it, level up from a starter to a pro with raised shoulder pads or the willingness to go back from it but we still find ourselves doing it more and that's when it's called addiction.
There is no one who does not know when something is bad most especially when we kickstart it as an habit because there is always an active conscience that makes us know the right from wrong so once we start doing those things, our choice lies there at a side, waiting for us to make a decision on whether to keep on with it or withdraw.
When we also talk about addiction, it's not always about drinking, drug abuse, smoking alone because these has been the major ones we focus on of which there are some little things we do but we never take note to notice that we are actually getting addicted to them. Either good or bad, we can be addicted to something.
For me to do something, it is my decision to choose to do it and if I would stop, it still remains my decision and choice to stop.
Truly, addiction may be difficult to desert from as it has become something you are used to, your body won't rest unless you succumb to giving it that thing. Just like someone who will always take body pain meds every night after the day's work, and any day they try not to use it, their body isn't going to be calm even to have a good sleep unless they that drugs.
I've seen people say "I'm trying to quit" when they are asked if they smoke or drink. They are willing to stop but until that choice to stop is valid, only then will there be steps taken to actually stop else, they end up finding themselves doing it.
Those feelings would actually want to draw us back to go back into it because it's normal for the body to ask for what it is used to and that you've always offered it but the choice to stop makes us seek help, refuse the urge when it comes increasingly more than before because it wanted us to come back and not leave.
It's our choice not to abuse whatever we do or use, it our choice not to stay addicted and it's our choice when we tag it as been difficult to leave or take necessary steps to really quit.
