Ingredients:
Chicken (or beef or mutton): 500 grams (cut into small pieces)
Yogurt: 3-4 tablespoons
Garlic: 3-4 cloves (chopped)
Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
Caraway seeds (Ajwain): 1 teaspoon
Black pepper: 陆 teaspoon
Salt: to taste
Paprika: 1 teaspoon
Cumin: 陆 teaspoon
Coriander seeds: 陆 teaspoon
Tomato: 1 (finely chopped)
Cabbage: 1 (finely chopped)
Shawarma bread (or pita bread): 6 pieces
Sauce or chutney (optional): to taste
Method:
- Preparing the Chicken:
Wash the chicken pieces thoroughly and clean them.
In a large bowl, mix yogurt, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, caraway seeds, black pepper, salt, paprika, cumin, and coriander seeds.
Add the chicken pieces to the mixture and marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to soak into the chicken. - Cooking the Chicken:
Heat a little oil in a pan or grill pan and cook the marinated chicken thoroughly. Fry the chicken until it turns golden brown and is cooked through. If you prefer, you can also cook the chicken in the oven. - Filling the Shawarma Bread:
Warm the shawarma or pita bread slightly.
Spread a little sauce or chutney (optional) on the bread.
Add the cooked chicken pieces, chopped cabbage, and mayonnaise or any other vegetables you prefer.
Roll the bread into a wrap. - Serving:
Your shawarma is ready! Serve it hot, along with extra chutney or vegetables if desired.
