The World’s First Nylon Plant began operation in Seaford, Delaware on December 12, 1939. Authorized by DuPont, and producing enough nylon for 64 million pairs of nylon stockings, the site became known as ‘The Nylon Capital of the World!’ The sand plant supplied most of the military grade nylon required by armed forces fighting in World War II. The facility is now a National Historic Chemical Landmark.
