I've been let know that a clever scam has been circulating lately, with focus on some popular travel websites. So let me quickly try to describe how this scam functions so we could notice it keep our money on the safe side, ohpefully.
So the fraudsters contact their potential victims as they pose as hotel staff via the chat functionalty at some travel sites. Their game moves claim there is an issue with the reservation details and then payment links are sent where card details are requested.
You know what happens next.
This is the scam in general.
Protections is not complex. What's essential is to NOT click on any links sent. Clicking will most probably lead to account details being stolen, of course on top of that there are virus infection threats too. Also important is to get in direct contact with the parties from your reservation (transport, accommodation, etc.) and confirm all is ok.
I hope this helps!
