Hello to friends who appreciate the beauty of feathered creatures, I hope you all are well with health and happiness.
Today I'm going to share with you a strategy use to keep our homesteading domestic fowls that hawk on the street close to their home.
In an area where you are not surrounded by a fence it will be very difficult to keep domestic fowls, in fact dentifying alone is one of the biggest problems you have to face due to the fact that they are everywhere on the street, they don't have home orelse you keep them in a safe cage or compound if not you have to keep your eyes on them by putting a mark on your fowl.
I have seen several types of marks on domestic fowl in my area, some put rubber rings on their feet for identification, but the most common one is the application of a piece of clothing to their feathers.
Domestic fowls live a carefree life, whether you feed them or not they can survive without your help because they peck from the ground, they use their feet to search for treasure (feed) which is why they are cheaper to raise.
Honestly, we called them local fowls because they are very stronger than broilers. However, in a situation where you don't have a cage or fence to keep them, they are very hard to control and keep eyes on them, but there are some way to control so they don't go far and they will come home to sleep especially the male chicks that like to leave their territory in search of female fowl and thus become prey for thieves.
To keep an eye on local fowls, people have different strategies that help them keep their chicks close to home, we had ours too. In the morning we make sure to feed them, the same in the evening so they have a reason to come home and it will be very easy for us to know if one is missing.
Mostly when it's time to feed in the morning, most of the chicks are already gone, but we had to get their attention by shaking a plastic bottle full of feed. That bottle makes a sound that they already know it's time to feed, so for the next few minutes you'll see them rushing home for food. Well we've already trained them with that sounds from the start and it becomes culture to next generation creatures ( new chicks).
Other than that, to keep eyes on the domestic fowls mainly help the female one to come home to lay their eggs. So, it's not until you build a fence before you can breed chicks it all depends on your efforts.
In fact, this beautiful morning, when I make the sounds as usual, I had another visitor come along with the sounds
I don't know where those birds came from, but surely someone closer to our neighborhood is taking care of them.
So how do you takecare of your domestic fowl that they don't get lost on the street?
