I didn't document most of the editing done but you can refer to this previous post to see the initial works. As usual, it's far from the target level and way off than the initial target output. I wanted to limit the work to a flat anime type of image instead I just went ahead and tried to go for 3D.
I've been doubling down on watching 3D portrait drawing more and some parts of the process get mixed up. When I shouldn't be preoccupied with adding values or volume on the flat drawing to render an anime look, I ended up on autopilot putting them anyway. It's that unconscious itch to push passed the known limit.
This turned out better than expected but still needs a lot more work on values, form rendering, and blending. I can see plenty of errors as I go along to the finish but these are errors I'm not yet able to remedy. Until then, more tutorials have to be consumed.
Below are the throwback practices I've been doing up to this point.
It's been a productive month so far. I've hit some milestones I initially thought would be further away. The target now is refining the gross forms and then speeding up the detail rendering while revisiting the fundamentals. I'll still post some occasional sketches when I'm on those art block periods. This blog is dedicated to documenting growth anyway.
If you made it this far reading, thank you for your time.
