I had this dream that someday, I will be powerful enough to get everything I want in life. I want to reach the top and be with one of the greats. I want everyone to seek my attention like it is a privilege for them. I am ambitious, and I desire everything in life.
My thirst for power started when I saw a man who felt like dying because an old beggar touched his clothes to ask for food. I can still remember how rude that man was. He was too arrogant to push an old lady in the streets like trash.
At that time, I couldn't do a thing because I was too young. I didn't know what to do, that I looked around and found no one seemed to care. Is everybody not seeing what I'm seeing? Why is everybody ignoring what that man did to the old lady? Then I thought that they were so high and wouldn't want to waste their time on such a thing.
I have that in mind when I found myself already in front of the woman trying to help her stand up. And I was dumb that I couldn't find the right words to at least sympathize with her. I wanted to apologize in place of that man, but I was caught off guard when that lady showed a smile to me.
How could a sweet smile suffer such a cruel fate? That day was a realization that one day: I can be more prominent than that man and teach lessons to anyone who would do the same to others. I wanted to become as powerful so that no child like me would ever witness such cruelty.
But look at me, I never had that dream that ambition to reach the top and become influential. I became a writer instead, and I'm telling you this story. It's far different from what I promised to become.
Maybe life has its reasons. If I ever that happened, will I be able to stay true to my purpose? Am I not going to be the same as that man? I might've had because, in this world, power alone can change a person's character. Probably, a reason why I became a writer is to reach hearts and not stars.
