I want to use this opportunity to appreciate dswigle@dswigle for given people like myself the privilege of exploring the market in my community every Friday. Sincerely, I am grateful, because alot have been happening in the market near me and I have not taken note of them till now.
Today I want to talk of the side effect of carbonated drinks. Because I went round the market in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. And I noticed the way people are rushing to buy carbonated drinks and that gave me concern.
Although the ingredients in carbonated drinks are deemed safe by food and drug administration, these beverages may cause side effects, especially if you consume them on a regular basis.

Drinking high -sugar soft drinks is most commonly associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and weight gain. But sodas can also have ill effects on your smile potentially leading to cavities and even visible tooth decay. When you drink soda, the sugar it contains interact with bacteria in your mouth to form acid.

SOME OF THE SIDE EFFECTS IN DETAIL.

  • tooth Decay :
Carbonated soft drinks can harm your teeth. Aesthetically it could turn your teeth yellow. Or it could result in more serious health condition which I will describe below :
Your mouth contains bacteria that feeds on sugar producing chemical that can break down. Carbonated beverages contains dissolved carbon dioxide, which becomes a gas when it warms to body temperature in your stomach. Consuming carbonated soft drink may cause repeated belching as your stomach stretches from the accumulation of carbon dioxide.

People who drinks carbonated beverages also tend to eat less fruit and juice compared to those who don't drink sodas.

REDUCES BONE STRENGTH
If you are a woman, consumption of Cola-type, carbonated drinks may reduce your bone strength.
In April, 2006 article published in "The American Journal of clinical Nutrition" Nutrition Scientist reported that Women who consume regular and diet cola tend to have weaker hipbones compared to those who don't drink these beverages.

From what I have gathered, carbonated drinks is not condemned, take it with wisdom. Don't make it a habitual thing.
Eat healthy food and stay healthy.
