The topic for the week says - Justice. First we will look at the word and it's meaning. What is Justice? According to Oxford dictionary, justice means - The ideal of fairness, impartiality, etc., especially with regard to the punishment of wrongdoing.馃憟 This has already made it simple for One to know where the topic is leading us. Been fair to someone means justice. Not been partial when delivering a judgement against anyone who committed a crime. Now let's look at the questions here 馃憞
When criminals are sent to prison, what should be the main purpose? Rehabilitation or punishment? I don't think we can do one and let the other slide. I believe that someone who committed a crime needs to face tje law. Why? To make sure that he or she didn't repeat that same mistake again and secondly to teach others a lesson so that they won't be tempted to do it. So if we say we just want to punish the person ww won't achieve much. If we also say that we are only doing a rehad without allowing that person face the law for the crime committed, then we are simply saying that anyone can commit the same crime and just go for rehab. I strongly suggest that we should go for both.
Punishment first
I believe that before any other thing that person should face the law and know that it is not permitted for anyone to do such evil. I wrote a novel with the title - Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child. The reason for that novel is so that children should know that the rod is not punishment, but it is also part of love. You correct anyone you love so that the person will be a better person tomorrow.
Rahab second
This is what I feel should come next because even after facing the law, that person should be shown the way forward. We need to hand them over to professionals who can make sure that they are not a threat to the society again. A rehab is the best option two that will help that person become better.
In conclusion, any child that you don't punish no matter how little when he has done something bad will become a problem to the society a large. Experts should also take their time to bring that person back to normal or even better so that there will be a balance.
This is my little way of saying my mind over the topic for this edition in week 241.
