Ahhh, the golden years. A time when all the hard backbreaking work is over and it is time to celebrate a life of carefree existence. A time when you no longer have to get up at 5:00 am in the morning and steel yourself for the coming days work. A time when you can sleep until 10:00 am everyday and not feel the least bit guilty. A time when you can have a nap anytime you want, even if you are not that tired.
Yes, the golden years!
It all sounds so wonderful. Even the term itself sounds like it will be the richest time of your life. Golden years. Covered in gold. Money flowing from every pocket, spilling out of your wallet and into things that make your old age exciting!
The reality is that everything that glitters is not gold and the same thing holds true of the Golden Years!
When humans reach the age of 30 or so things start going downhill in a biological sense. Cells don't multiply as well as they should, skin starts to lose elasticity and leave wrinkles behind. Metabolism changes and usually slows down along with energy and stamina. All these things happen at a very slow pace and, for the most part, we are unaware of them.
It is only when we are getting into our 60's and 70's do we wake up one morning and look at our wrinkled old face in the mirror that we exclaim, "What the hell is going on with my body!!!"
