My recent gardening activities

I hadn't done any real gardening for a few weeks, for various reasons. Since I was about to go on vacation, I couldn't leave anything undone, and I also had some things to take care of at home, such as painting the window bars, cleaning the walls, and other things.

But one day, when I went downstairs, I decided to take care of some pending tasks with some of my plants.

For example, I have a fern; I thought it was what they call a staghorn fern, but it's not, although it's quite similar. I had noticed for days that although it has green leaves, there were also a lot of dead leaves; to be honest, it didn't seem to be very happy in that pot, so I took advantage of the fact that my son was there and took it out. Its roots had almost no substrate left, so I got to work and also placed it in a spot where it could be watered more easily.

Likewise, one of my Monstera plants, as I believe it is, a plant I inherited from a neighbor who passed away, used to be in water and in a spot where it received direct light. I placed it in soil and in a place where it receives indirect light; its leaves look better and it has grown so much that I had to cut it and plant it in another pot; also, the stick I had placed as a support broke and I had to put in a new one, but I need to think about a permanent solution and a larger pot.

On the other hand, the rains have decreased, so I have had to be attentive to watering plants that need water more often, such as coleus, and speaking of coleus, I discovered that the one that had died out of nowhere was because a neighborhood kitten had taken the pot as a litter box; I found this out when I planted a new cutting, so I decided to move the pot until the cuttings I planted take root and grow.

As for my houseplants, I'm worried about my zamioculcas; it's just stunned, it's not growing. I was talking about it with a neighbor and she gave me a recipe that she uses on hers, so I'll try it and see what results I get, because I really want to see this plant grow to a large size; I've seen some huge ones in different places and they look simply beautiful.

I hadn't mentioned some new plants to you; one is a fuchsia-colored Bella a las Once and the other I don't know what variety it is, but it also has orange flowers. That one is very funny, because as soon as the sun goes down, it closes its flowers and leaves. It took a while to fill the Bella a las Once pot, but now it's lovely to see it in bloom, so I plan to plant some cuttings from the gardens, since it's better to see these flowers than weeds, especially because I've noticed that they hinder their growth, so it would be a great partnership. I know it will take time, but I also know it will look great.

In short, that's how my gardening activities are going, and with these lines my participation in The Last Garden Journal Challenge! comes to an end.

Tenía algunas semanas sin hacer verdadera jardinería, las razones fueron varias, al estar por salir de vacaciones no podía dejar nada pendiente, y, por otra parte, estoy atendiendo algunas cosas en casa como pintar las rejas de las ventanas, limpiar las paredes, y otras cosas.

Pero un día sin mas al bajar decidí atender algunos pendientes con algunas de mis plantas.

Por ejemplo, tengo un helecho; creí que era el que llaman cacho de venado, pero no lo es, pero es bastante similar. Tenía días notando que aunque tiene hojas verdes, también había una gran cantidad de hojas muertas; la verdad, parecía ya no estar muy a gusto en esa maceta, así que aproveché que mi hijo estaba allí y la saqué. Sus raíces ya no tenían casi nada de sustrato, así que puse manos a la obra y además la coloqué en un lugar en el que pudo regarla más fácilmente.

Así mismo, una de mis Monstera, ya que creo que lo es, una planta que heredé de una vecina que falleció, solía estar en agua y en un lugar donde recibía luz directa; yo la coloqué en sustrato y en un lugar donde recibe luz indirecta; sus hojas se ven de mejor tonalidad y ha crecido muchísimo, al punto que tuve que cortar y sembrar en otra maceta; además, el palo que le había colocado como soporte se rompió y tuve que colocar uno nuevo, pero debo ir pensando en una solución definitiva y en una maceta más grande.

Por otro lado, las lluvias han mermado, por lo que he tenido que estar atenta al riego de plantas que necesitan agua mas seguido, como por ejemplo las cóleos, y hablando de cóleos, descubrí que la que se había muerto de la nada, fue porque algún gatito comunitario tomo la maceta de arenero; lo descubrí al sembrar un esqueje nuevo, por lo que decidí cambiar la maceta de lugar hasta que los esquejes que sembré den raíces y crezcan.

En cuanto a mis plantas caseras, me preocupa mi zamioculca; simplemente está pasmada, no crece. Estuve conversando del tema con una vecina y me dio una receta que uso en las suyas, así que intentaré a ver que resultados me da, porque la verdad anhelo ver crecer esta planta a grandes proporciones; he visto unas enormes en diversos lugares y lucen simplemente hermosas.

No les había comentado de unas plantas nuevas; una es una Bella a las Once color fucsia y la otra no sé que variedad será, pero también es de flores naranja. Esa es muy graciosa, pues en cuanto el sol baja, ella cierra sus flores y sus hojas. Costó un poco lograr que la maceta de la Bella a las Once se llenara, pero ahora es encantador verla con flores, así que tengo planes de ir sembrando en algunos esquejes de los jardines, ya que es mejor ver estas flores que la mala hierba y más porque he notado que impide su crecimiento, así que sería una gran alianza. Sé que tomará tiempo, pero también sé que se verá muy bien.

En resumen, así van mis actividades de jardinería, y con estas líneas termina mi participación en ¡El último desafío del diario del jardín!
