Since I was born and taken to my home, I have had the privilege of living in a place full of greenery, so I love to go to places, call it cafe, restaurant, home or any other, where they appreciate plants, a few months ago I saw a digital press headline that had as title "Modern Hanging Gardens", I did not read it, but that title immediately reminded me of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world "The Hanging Gardens of Babylon", if we investigate they were not hanging as such, its name is due to a bad translation, but what those who have studied its existence describe, must have been really beautiful to be called a wonder. Just imagining it makes me sigh.
There are several theories, stories or legends about their origin, some say that they were created for the wife of one of the kings because she came from a mountainous place with vegetation and Babylon was the opposite because it had many plains, others say that it was created by a queen who was regent for years, while waiting for her son to be old enough to reign. But whoever came up with it left a mark in history that still resonates today.
This marvel, in reality they were not hanging gardens, the error is due to a bad translation, since the gardens were located or were distributed in the form of a terrace or a balcony, in short, they protruded, but not hung. An internet article describes them as follows:
According to the chronicles that have transcended, the hanging gardens of Babylon would have consisted of a building composed of terraces staggered, built with large stones. The stones were the structure on which the soil was placed and trees, flowers and shrubs would have been planted there.
It is estimated that for the irrigation of the gardens they used a machine similar to a hydraulic waterwheel that allowed the elevation of the water. Archaeologists have found in the ruins of the Palace of the south, a well that they estimate by its characteristics could be associated with the irrigation of the gardens.
Here you can appreciate two images of how the hanging gardens of Babylon were presumed to look, I particularly imagine it full of green tones, freshness, birds, insects and everything that makes life in a place of this type, it must have been really something beautiful to see.
Now, when talking about modern hanging gardens, we talk about the trend of using walls and other types of designs in which in some cases, if they are usually involved cables or ropes to suspend them, but usually, it is terraces, balconies, walls to which structures have been added to achieve this purpose, In recent years it has become very fashionable to use pallets for creating furniture and decorating spaces, I love this trend, for me it gives the feeling of a quiet atmosphere and at the same time a cozy place, plus they use those pallets for something useful.
About 5 years ago, on a business trip, I visited a city in Venezuela called San Carlos, the capital of Cojedes state, there the people who received us took us to a restaurant at lunchtime and more than the food, which was delicious, I remember that in their walls created environments using pallets and had a beautiful garden, with plants of various types, but what impressed me most was how humid the plants and the structure looked, as San Carlos is a very hot city.
If you look for images and references of modern hanging gardens you will find structures of this type, unfortunately the photo I took of that beautiful place I lost it, since that cell phone suffered from what they call sudden death and one day it simply turned off and did not turn on anymore and the information that was not stored in the cloud or in the micro SD was lost.
Many times we believe that, to have a garden we must have a large spacious house, with green areas and many times it is true, but after seeing this space in that restaurant and the incredible amount of images on the internet with ideas for garden structures at home, in any type of space, I can only think that I do not have a hanging garden at home, because I have not proposed it, here I share some of the images and if you want to see more, just put in the search engine of your favorite browser "modern hanging gardens" you will find so many ideas that you will not know which one to choose.
I made this publication being aware that many of us live in the city and many times we have far from nature, but with ideas like these we can bring it home and fill our home with a bit of nature that brings us peace and serenity, I say goodbye wishing you liked my publication and if so please leave me a comment.
