Aesthetics and beauty, we may believe that they are current concepts and perhaps now are, let's say more exploited by the existence of social networks, but it is something that has always been present, of course in previous centuries beauty treatments and aesthetics were seen in a totally different way than we can see it and apply it today.

Curiously, many are unaware that aesthetics is a branch of philosophy whose object is the perception and essence of beauty, so aesthetics and beauty are closely related.

It is curious that for about a week I have been appearing in TikTok historical videos of the beauty standards of past centuries for example in the fourteenth century when Elizabeth I reigned in England was fashionable, among others, the pallor in the face, which was achieved with a makeup that for the time was composed as follows:

...basically by lead carbonate treated with vinegar, to which egg white was added to allow it to adhere well to the skin. Occasionally, it also carried traces of arsenic.

In the case of Queen Elizabeth I she did not use makeup like other ladies to look pale, because she by nature, already was, in her case, she began to use it after contracting a rash disease so her face was marked, so the solution to cover the marks, was to use makeup.

In these videos I also heard about things like using one's own urine as a tonic on the face or the fact that frentite women at some point in the Middle Ages in Europe were considered beautiful, which resulted in many women shaving to meet this standard.

Not to mention ancient Egypt, where it is said that the famous Cleopatra took baths of donkey milk, it was one of her beauty secrets, so no doubt that beauty has been longed for throughout history, wishing to meet their expectations.

Now, the if we look at what have been the beauty standards over the centuries we will notice that it is all about perception, I think so, because what may be beautiful for me, for someone else it is not, so the appreciation of beauty is subjective, for example I have a friend who likes chubby women like that, as I have another who hates fat women, because he was fat during his childhood and part of his adolescence and I imagine that he sees himself reflected in them and brings back memories, so he prefers very thin.

So it can be said that human beings throughout history have longed for beauty, perhaps beyond the prototype of women, which is what I focus on, perhaps in the arts, whether painting, sculpture, writing, architecture, music, etc., but all of the above will be mostly appropriate to the time in which they lived or their tastes.

Nowadays, there is a diversity of tastes and we can see as beautiful certain things that others may not like. In my case, I love impressionist paintings, specifically the works of Claude Monet.

In short, aesthetics studies the perception of beauty, so we can say that indeed, as Francis Bacon said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, thus ends my participation in Temas para cada-da-da-del-mes-julio-engesp-8ej.
