Quizás no pensamos mucho al respecto, pero la humanidad vivió una gran parte de la historia sin saber lo que es ver una película o serie de televisión. Sin embargo, algo seguramente rondaba constatemente en la mente de nuestros antepasados la mayor parte del tiempo. No podían simplemente pensar en nada que no sea la vida diaria.
Pertenezco a una generación que creció viendo Dragon Ball. Y que genial haber encontrado un portal o portón con la casa "Kame House" del Maestro Rochi pintada en una de las calles de Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Esto me hizo pensar en algo al respecto.
Hoy en día, existen infinidad de películas y series. Algunas se ponen muy de moda periódicamente. Siempre hay algo de moda. Las cosas que se muestran en estas películas o series se convierten de alguna forma, al menos temporalmente, en nuestra "leyenda personal". Constantemente pensamos en la trama de la pelicula o serie y cómo los buenos vencieron a los malos, o cómo actuó nuestro personaje favorito.
¿Cuál era la "leyenda personal" de nuestros antepasados? Seguramente las historias que contaban los ancianos del pueblo, los chismes de los vecinos, o cómo resultó la cacería. Si lo pensamos de otro modo, es lo mismo que existe hoy en día: tenemos películas de fantasía, canales de farándula y chismes de celebridades y Animal Planet.
Si nos vamos más atrás, surgieron leyendas y mitos en las diferentes civilizaciones antiguas, y quizás esas historias son las que formaron la cultura y moral de las sociedades con el tiempo. No sé que tipo de cosas ven los niños hoy en día, pero al menos viendo Dragon Ball aprendí que siempre se puede vencer al mal no importa que tan poderoso luzca, entre otras cosas. Algo similar surge de las historias bíblicas: no todo es color rosa, pero el propósito final es sagrado, por decirlo de alguna manera. Y esas historias que creamos y de las cuales nos alimentamos nos forman, crean nuestra cultura. Es fácil ignorar el impacto que tiene en nosotros porque es algo intangible, pero no es algo menor. I belong to a generation that grew up watching Dragon Ball. And how cool to have found a portal or gate with Master Rochi's "Kame House" painted on one of the streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This made me think of something about it.
Nowadays, there are an infinite number of movies and series. Some of them become very fashionable periodically. There is always something trendy. The things shown in these movies or series somehow become, at least temporarily, our "personal legend". We constantly think about the plot of the movie or series and how the good guys beat the bad guys, or how our favorite character acted.
What was the "personal legend" of our ancestors? Surely the stories told by the village elders, the gossip of the neighbors, or how the hunt turned out. If we think about it another way, it's the same thing that exists today: we have fantasy movies, celebrity gossip and entertainment channels, and Animal Planet.

I don't know what kind of stuff kids watch these days, but at least watching Dragon Ball I learned that you can always defeat evil no matter how powerful it looks, among other things. Something similar comes out of biblical stories: not everything is rosy, but the ultimate purpose is sacred, so to speak. And those stories we create and feed on shape us, and create our culture. It's easy to ignore the impact it has on us because it's intangible, but it's no small thing. And you, what is your personal legend?
