W - e - e - k - e - n - d......................!!!
It's the weekend again!
And what happens when it's the weekend is that there's plenty of eating... food, good food... ~ Malaysian-style!
And what is being Malaysian without the food... By now those familiar with Malaysia (and Malaysians) would know that we love our food, and with good reason too!
We are surrounded by food 24/7! Anywhere and everywhere!!
Step out of the house and there's food... And people wonder why we don't cook much at home (speaking from errr.... personal experience, I mean...)
And it's infectious! I can bet the foreigners who have visited and those who have stayed on, have also fallen into the same love affair with our food...
Ok, less talking and more gawking! 馃槃馃構
Here is a loose collection of food we've had over the last weekend/week...
a mouth-watering look before we proceed into this weekend!
This is a 'Roti Arab'
Not sure where its from, whether its really an Arab bread even... but that's what it's commonly called here
Slathered with a generous amount of 'kaya' - an egg/coconut milk thick custard mix usually spread on breakfast bread and toast... with some Planta (margarine)
Generally found at our mamak outlets, it goes on the flat pan and attains nice crisp sides but maintains unbelievably soft insides... mmmmmm......
We had that for one of our suppers...
A definite bread-lovers favourite!
Tomyum noodles (with yee mee) for lunch!
Lots of veggies, with chicken and cuttlefish inside...
a spicy and sour enough soup to bring tears to your eyes and believe me, it will definitely leave your taste buds wanting more... 'tortuous' as it may seem...
Breakfast!
With 'nasi lemak', what else...
Nothing but those small packet-style ones will do...
with banana-leaf wrapping of course!
For aromatic flavour...
And extra crispy fried chicken as a bonus!
All the generous bits around the chicken is ginger bits ~ tastes wonderful...
And the nasi lemak itself?
Take a look below...
Small but potent...
One is never enough, you need to have two... at least!
Coconut milk rice, topped with a slice of hard boiled egg, 'sambal' (a spicy, sometimes sweetish gravy/sauce), 'ikan bilis' (crispy fried anchovies), peanuts and cucumber
That's a basic must-have for nasi lemak,
chicken and others are extras...
Hungry yet?
For lunch, chicken rice...
I like the steamed version, or you can it roasted too
Steamed chicken somehow brings out better flavour
Topped with spring onion, coriander, fried shallots, soya sauce and sesame oil
We like lean breast meat, hence, you don't see the other bony fatty pieces here
Seen here with oil rice (that's very very yummilicious btw) and soup, lettuce with garlic and sesame oil (also very yummy) and a to-die-for chili
Now, even I am getting hungry...
Dinner... or supper...
Masala thosai (or dosa) - there's a great potato curry in there...
served with a white and a red coconut chutney
and a dhall curry
Seen here with 'teh tarik'... hot pulled tea!
Heyyyy, anddd....
Dessert!
Ice cream sundaes!!!
After lunch last Sunday...
Don't make me remember the names...
Lol!
They all sound the same...
All I know is...
There was whipped cream, almond chips, banana, coconut ice cream, mint & chocolate chip ice cream, strawberry ice cream, honey, caramel, chocolate sauce, chopped peanuts and cherries on top!
And that was all three sundaes!
Including the one below...
We shared, of course...
That's the fun of it!!
Remember, we didn't have it all on one day...
That would be preposterous
(or would it...? hmmmm....)
~ The end ~
Have a Happy Delicious Weekend, everyone!!
