Thanks for the info, I brought this up in a chat as well recently in hopes to get more info but that's a bit of a relief that it's not guaranteed and it's not the main way to get points. It's a bit unfortunate/unnecessary that it exists to begin with, though, partly considering that we've been working hard to move away from the bid bot era, the vote-trading, leasing in an effort to maximize post rewards, etc, all which at the end of the day just take away apr and value from those using Hive the way it's meant to be used which ensures fairness in curation and of the effort of users and their content/social aspect. From what I hear ecency offers all curation rewards back to delegators anyway, which is understandable as they do not do any curation or something that takes effort to make sense to take a fee for, so my assumption is that as a front-end they're doing this for the account credits which could easily be changed to offer points for RC delegations rather and continue to give points away for the other reasons you stated and maybe things like people using the front-end and being socially active there.
