Eating two or three servings of grapes a day, or about 2 handhelds, can help sharpen memory, including reducing the risk of Alzheimer's.

Scientists believe that the nutrients in grapes are able to protect parts of the brain associated with memory against damage. Not only that, wine is also found to increase the attention and memory performance for people who already show symptoms of Alzheimer's.

Research conducted by the University of California found no significant change in participants who consume grapes in powder form twice a day for 6 months.

Half the participants were asked to consume wine powder equivalent to 72 grams of wine a day, and the other half had a placebo powder. Then, researchers observed cognitive performance through a scan at the start of the study and six months later.

The results show that eating grapes promotes healthy metabolic activity in memory-related brain regions.

While those who took a placebo actually decreased a significant metabolism. Lead researcher Dr. Daniel Silverman says it applies to any type of wine, whether black or white wine.

He said, "The results show regular intake of wine may have a beneficial effect on memory, including protection against early memory degradation associated with Alzheimer's disease."
