Not A Statue

I want to be like stone
Never feel a thing.
Because the truth about me...
I'm in love with being in love,
But in practice,
It's a pain in the ass.
I want to be like stone,
Solid, strong, complete.
But I am fragile,
My heart breaks as easy as glass beads.
Shattered, fractured shards,
In every color you could dream.
"Stop letting your heart drop,"
You say as you hand it back to me,
"It doesn't belong on the floor."
You're right.
I can't pick out these pieces anymore,
Shards of my shattered heart
Stick out from your palms.
I'm sorry,
I tried to warn you,
That's what happens when people
Try to fix me.
Those pieces will go with you,
And this space in my heart
Will still be here,
Meant just for you,
Long after you leave.
