A lot of my recent poetry catalogues my whirlwind romance last year. I love my ex boyfriend very much, he’s a wonderful human. Unfortunately, we are not compatible, as I am a polyamorous human and he is a monogamous human. My husband also cares very much for him, and we are all still very close friends. So here is one, written towards the end of our relationship. Essentially a plea. Welcome to my heart, it’s going to be a fun little adventure.
Floating to Paradise
It's sink or swim time
We threw you out to sea
Make up your mind
We don't have time
To wait you out
Just kidding,
I'll always wait.
You see....
I should have taught you how float
Because he and I,
We started this journey without a boat,
Waded in to our knees.
It took time,
We set our pace,
And floated out to sea.
Time built us up
Into what you now see.
Let's hit reverse,
I'm sure this boats equipped with training wings.
Or a life vest or three.
I promise not to let you float
Too far away from me
We're far at sea
You and me
We don't think before we leap.
The water may be deep right now,
And stretch as far as you can see,
But once you learn to swim,
It's not half as scary as it seems.
And I, for one,
Can promise not to leave.
Call off the rescue boats,
Learn to float with me,
We can build an island
Starting out as three.
