Nadila’s shyness puts her into her mum’s trouble almost all the time. Nadila finds it difficult to say to her mum’s customers that she has been asked not to sell goods on credit and whenever her mum gets back from the market, she yells at Nadila almost everyday because she must have sold some goods on credit.
On Wednesday again, Nadila’s mum headed to Orile market as usual and warned Nadila about selling goods on credit before leaving for the market. With the way Nadila’s mum warned her, it was crystal clear that Nadila would not dare to sell goods on credit.
If you sell my goods on credit, I’ll take you to a boarding school, telling Nadila that she will be taken to a boarding school was the greatest way to make her feel scared and she made up her coward mind not to sell goods on credit to anyone.
However, one of her mum’s best customer, Iya Hikimoh arrived. It was always the joy of Nadila and her mum to make good and so much sales everyday and because of this, Nadila has to sell a lot before her mum gets back from the market.
Nadila’s mum who is the number one grocery seller in the whole of Yaba has almost everything that pertains to grocery in her shop and that’s why she has a lot of customers who buy hundreds of goods from her shop.
While Iya Hikimoh was buying her goods, Nadila called her mum for the prices especially for the ones that she does not know.
All her goods are three hundred and twenty one thousand, three hundred and fifty Naira. Make sure that she pays all her money, Nadila’s mum who was at the market was the same person who did the calculation after the list was being sent to her and she still emphasized on Nadila not selling on credit to Iya Hikimoh.
Okay. Here is two hundred and twenty one thousand, three hundred and fifty Naira. I will send any bike man who carries me now to give you the balance when he’s coming back. You will get it in five minutes, it was in two ways. It was either Nadila gives the goods to Iya Hikimoh and waits for just a few minutes to get the money which will be given to the bike man or she follows her mum’s prior warning not to sell goods on credit.
This was where Nadila’s greatest fear and being outspoken was put to test. Nadila was left to decide if she wants to prove her ability of being outspoken or if she wants her mum to send her to a bording school.
Maybe I should tell her not to take the goods again. Anything can happen and what if something goes wrong?, Nadila thinks in her mind. While hoping to tell Iya Hikimoh that she doesn’t agree with her proposal, Nadila’s feet was cold already. She started to shiver and tried to look for the courage to tell that to Iya Hikimoh.
Sadly, Nadila failed again. Nadila failed at telling Iya Hikimoh that she doesn’t want to sell on credit. After Iya Hikimoh left, Nadila sat quietly outside the shop with her heart beating fast while watching the road to see when the bike man will pass but that didn’t happen.
On a whim, Nadila looked to the right and sighted a Keke Napep coming with groceries loaded fully in it. Her heart skipped twice. That was her mum. Looking to the left, it was the bike man whom Iya Hikimoh has asked Nadila to collect the money from.
Nadila faced a dilemma. Who does she go to meet first and how will she be smart enough that her mum won’t know that the bike man was giving her some money? While welcoming her mum, she signaled to the bike man to stay at the back of the Keke Napep so she can collect the money from him.
Immediately after she stretched her hands towards the bike man, her mum snatched the money from the bike man. The credit sales eventually went wrong and at last, her mum knew about it.
Nadila’s merciless mum didn’t think twice. On the next day, she enrolled Nadila into a boarding school which is four hours away from home.
To save my goods from being sold on credit, I will have to enroll you into a boarding school, Nadila regrets her actions and also not being outspoken.
While in boarding school, Nadila crushed her fear and she became that outspoken girl who can always say no to anyone at anytime.
