Women's sport is starting to get more recognition in recent years, but it certainly has a long way to go.

Sport is quite different than many other potential careers though, as to make it you require underlying talent and lots of it and then you need to work hard at it and still you might not make it, in fact the vast majority do not make it in sport and play as a pastime in the end and need a second job.
