Of Course I’m from A Ghanaian Home And My Mother Only Apologizes With Food.
Of course I’m from a Ghanaian home and my mother only apologizes with food. I woke up today very excited because it’s Sunday and definitely fufu day.If you follow my posts you’d know we eat fufu every Sunday in my house which I think is a Sunday ritual in Ghana. The first thing I do when I wake up on Sundays is to look for my mother wherever she is to greet her(that’s because she’s my church buddy).I did that as usual and my mom responded with something I was not expecting. It didn’t sound pleasant in my ears and normally I would let go but today I decided to actually allow myself to be annoyed.
I was so annoyed to the extent that I did all the chores in the house(Yes,my hardworking attitude comes when I’m annoyed).I even forgot about church and by the time I realized she had already left me at home.According to her she was calling me and I wasn’t minding her(which is true). She knew I was angry at her for what she said.
She came home after church with ice cream for me.It looked really nice but I stood to my grounds and said no to it.It was followed by chocolate and I still rejected it. I was in my room listening to a podcast when I heard her calling my name so loud.I actually rushed out of my room thinking something was happening only for me to go to the kitchen to see her with food,”please come and eat”.At this point I was really hungry but I still said no and went back to my room.
She told me she was going to visit someone in the neighborhood and as soon as she left, I rushed to finish that food I rejected in minutes(yes, the rejected stone became the cornerstone).
I checked fridge and took the ice cream and chocolate as well.
She came back and started laughing after entering the kitchen. She realized I ate the food and took the chocolate. I laughed back and the rest was history.
Honestly, not that I was even expecting anything like ”I’m sorry for..” because there wasn’t going to be one.I’m used to this and all the drama attached with coming from a Ghanaian home.Truth be told I even like this better.Who needs any apology when you can get ice cream and chocolate?(not me though)
