About 4 years ago, there was this huge auditions for something in Ghana. I’m not sure what the auditions were for but there was this person(let’s call him Kofi) that went for the auditions. It was aired on tv so we all watched it. Right when he came on stage, one of the judges asked of his name and I don’t know if he forgot or what but he gave his social media name rather.Right after he mentioned his name, one of the judges got angry and shouted “so you are the one”.
Some months before the auditions, that guy insulted one of the judges on his twitter page but because he wasn’t sharing his pictures and personal information, they couldn’t trace him. So they got to know he was the one at the auditions and he was severely embarrassed on national television and thrown out of the auditions room. You probably are feeling bad for him and all but guess what? That didn’t stop him. After all, they say there’s nothing like bad press right? So after that auditions, he started making himself known with his pictures and all.
He started getting himself into fights and insulting people in power. He insulted Davido when his son and said something about he being an irresponsible father and all that. Davido actually replied him saying that, his only wish is that he experiences the death of his own child too. See, that’s not the thing, he’s been cursed by so many people but he keeps doing it. Sometimes I wonder if that’s his own way of building his brand or what.
Not long ago, he was taken from his house at dawn by unknown men. He went missing for about 3 days or so. When he was returned, he had been severely beaten and tortured. Most people weren’t even bothered during the time that he was taken away except his family members because the pain he had caused with words was too much. Prior to him being taken away, he said some really bad things about the President of Ghana and the First Lady. Well, he hasn’t changed but at least he has gone a little low key now. I know people change so we only hope that once he comes back he would have changed.
Now, imagine if the judges didn’t know that he was the one and they accepted him to be part of the project, just imagine what would have happened next. As a company, it is really important to know what kind of person someone is especially now that social media has given the platform for people to show their true colours and still be anonymous. Just like we all have virtual friends we’ve never even seen before, some people also feel they can do anything on social media and never be caught.
If you employ a person like Kofi without looking into his socials, you would one day be sitting at work and the FBI will come and close down your company for something going on online that you probably have no idea about.
