They enhance one's appearance and making one feel confident. They have done a great job in hiding a one's undesirable features like spots,scars,etc.

They are used to protects the skin e.g sunscreen ,from face burn,etc. Some are used for the treatment of skin problems such as pimples,eczema,etc. They increase one's natural features, they make one look more attractive and presentable.
Now that we even have anti-aging cream that makes one look young for many years,this gives old women who are still in search of husband hope that they can still be married as long as they apply their cream.
They have done wonders to the extends of making a man looks exactly like a woman. That those carrying prostitute are very vigilant now that they shouldn't take a guy home in replace of a lady lol.

In film industries - they have bring a great change to the acting work. The stress they go through on stage acting before, using all their strength to act to be able to perform just look like another person but with the use of makeup now it has been easier for a actor who want to behave like an old person after they have applied make up on the person,making the skin wrinkle like an old person,so with just a little style and action we believes that they are actually old. We now watch movie and feel like it is happening real.
