'But Why!'
Many at times we ask the Lord;
Sending Him on compulsory guilt trips.
How audacious it would be,
To question the Potter,
In His own task of moulding the clay;
Or the goldsmith,
In His refining of the gold;
But we dare to question our Father,
Forgetting that, He who spares the rod
Hates his son.
If the clay cannot question the Porter
Neither can the gold, the goldsmith,
Then we dare not question the Master.
For He is the Potter while we the clay;
Also the goldsmith, while we the gold.
He desires to mould us,
Into the right and useful shape;
Under His fatherly palms of chastening
And refine us into purified and costly gold,
under the furnace of affliction.
Therefore if we endure chastening
God deals with us as with sons.
For what son is he who the Father
Chastens not?
He truly for a few days
chastens us for our profit,
That we might be partakers of His holiness
And righteousness.
-Let us now learn to say like Job,
He knows the way that I take:
When He has tried me,
I shall come forth as gold'.
