Redpolls! These cute fluffy, hearty birds and pretty darn badass. When most birds are flying south to Mexico these little fellows are flying south to Northern Saskatchewan. They are coming from the tundras of NWT and the Yukon. This is where they spend the summers to nest and mate. Of course, once the winter comes these places become inhospitable.
The prairies on the other hand are full of food during the winter months....for a redpoll at least. You can often find them snacking on the buds of poplar, birch or jack pine trees. Some get really smart and will raid a local farmers grain bin.
Make sure to look for the cute little birds when you are out for a walk. They are very friendly and not too worried about us humans. If you can put out a bird feeder and some seed to attract them to your yard!
Get outside friends! It is one hell of a wonderful world. Get out and explore it.
